CHEER and CHAMPS, along with our partners, participated in the American Public Health Association (APHA) 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo, November 2-6, 2019! The presentations at the Breastfeeding Oral Session: Supporting Breastfeeding from the Hospital to the Community, included:
  • Using implementation science to evaluate Mississippi CHAMPS: A RE-AIM assessment
  • Increasing breastfeeding rates and improving maternal child health practices in Mississippi hospitals: The CHAMPS initiative
  • Infant feeding among refugees in Athens, Greece
Our partners, Kimberly Ramsey and Tawanda Logan-Hurt also did oral presentations on WIC and Baby Cafes in Mississippi.

MISSISSIPPI CHAMPS CONFERENCE 2019

The 2019 conference was CHAMPS's biggest yet! Boasting of 180 participants, it featured a variety of topics related to breastfeeding including creative and successful community and prenatal education, considerations for educating the educators, tips on sustaining Baby-Friendly practices, and the Inter Professional Education (IPE) project among others. It also included a very uplifting parent panel where parents shared their prenatal, hospital, and post natal experiences with breastfeeding.

NBCC 2019

CHAMPS presented their abstract entitled 'Communities and Hospitals Advancing Maternity Care Practices (CHAMPS) using a Curriculum on Safety' for the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) Ninth National Breastfeeding Conference and Convening (NBCC 2019), held June 14-15, 2019, Breakout Panel Session! Thank you to CHAMPS' own Lori Feldman-Winter, Cathy Carothers, and Kimarie Bugg for submitting, and for presenting on behalf of the CHAMPS team.
