![]() Congratulations to our Champions, the Infant Nurses of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle (BMH-GT)! They were nominated for their continuous and tireless efforts toward exclusive breastfeeding and rooming in. Since BMH-GT received their Baby-friendly designation on February 4, 2019, the nurses have continued to be diligent in improving the exclusive breastfeeding and rooming in rates. With the increasing COVID-19 activity in MS, the team has focused in helping moms achieve their goals of exclusive breastfeeding and helping to show them the benefits. In general, they have focused on more skin to skin during the hospital stay as well as delayed bathing. “We achieved an exclusive breastfeeding rate of 57% in April, a new high for us,” shares Susan Spencer MSN, RNC-OB, IBCLC, Director of Women’s Services and CHAMPS Team Lead at BMH-GT. She further expressed that the infant nurses are diligent in their teaching with moms and explaining the utmost importance of exclusive breastfeeding. They have also improved their documentation of teaching, barriers, conditions, that require additional resources, and physician orders. They continue to encourage mothers and ensure that all procedures are done in patient rooms. Their diligence has resulted in exclusive breastfeeding rates consistently between 40-60% and rooming in rates consistently above 90% monthly. Congratulations to this wonderful group of Infant Nurses, thank you for your hard work and exemplary diligence in promoting exclusive breastfeeding and rooming in! |
